Basset Hound

The Basset Hound is a short-legged breed of dog in the hound family. The Basset is a scent hound that was originally bred for the purpose of hunting hare.

Basset Hounds are easily recognizable by their long ears, droopy eyes, and distinctive short legs. Their dense and smooth coat can come in a variety of colors, including tricolor, red and white, and lemon and white. Regular grooming is necessary to keep their coat healthy and to manage shedding, along with cleaning their long ears to prevent infections.

These dogs are known for their exceptional sense of smell and tracking abilities, which make them excellent scent hounds. Despite their laid-back and often lazy demeanor at home, Basset Hounds are determined and energetic when on a scent trail. They are generally friendly and sociable, getting along well with children and other pets, making them great family companions. However, their strong scent drive means they require secure fencing and should be supervised when outdoors. Regular exercise is important to keep them healthy and to prevent obesity, which they are prone to due to their build. With their loyal and gentle nature, Basset Hounds make wonderful and loving pets for families and individuals alike.
